Steps on How to Get IPS Police Jobs After Taking the Civil Services Police Exam

The civil service exam of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of your entry points to becoming a police officer or landing a police job in India. This exam is conducted in two stages: preliminary and main exam. To be allowed to take the preliminary exam, you have to show proof that you have completed a Bachelor's degree in any stream, in any university. Also, you have to be at least 21 years old but not more than 30 years of age. UPSC also has other physical requirements that you have to pass.

If you passed the objective test, you will be eligible to take the main written exam. Both exams cover a lot of topics, including general studies, history, geography, politics, social issues, and more. The UPSC is a prestigious exam that is taken by tens of thousands of candidates, but only about 200 of these candidates are selected. Therefore, you must really study and prepare well to ace this test.

Your journey to getting a police job in India does not end after taking and passing the UPSC exams. You still have to through a screening process, which involves different steps such as:

1. Personal interview

This interview is done under 30 minutes, where questions to determine your personality are asked. Your marks in the mains exams and in this interview are added together, and the total score will dictate whether you will be absorbed by the IPS or not. As with the exams, you need to prepare for the interview.

2. Training

If you are one of 200 successful candidates, then you will have to go through rigorous training for a year together with your fellow candidates. You will learn about the country's penal codes, special laws, criminology, and other important subjects. During this time, you will also get physical training.

Some states do direct recruitment, providing separate exams and requirements to screen aspirants. You can find police job listings online and apply through job portals. This is another way of becoming a police officer.
